Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich

The institute for educational research, located at the university of Munich (LMU), is belonging to the department of Pedagogics and Rehabilitation. There are four professors working there dealing with questions of socialization, evaluation, research methodology and adult education. For example members of the institute did evaluation research at the learning regions in Germany, they are working on questions of participations in adult education, school leadership or professionalization in pedagogical fields. In our research we use quantitative and qualitative methodologies in a broad sense. We are members in several research and advisory boards of journals and organizations in the field of education.

p&w praxis und wissenschaft

p&w praxis und wissenschaft projekt is a research organisation specialized in socioeconomic research, evaluation and quality development. Key staff members were involved in the evaluation of the ESF-support to systems and structures, whereas emphasis was put on systemic and structural impact of the German Learning Regions. p&w since 2007 is standing member of the board of German learning regions. p&w also is member of the European Quality.Net as well as the Capitalization and Evaluation Research Network (CERN). Under the Leonardo da Vinci programme p&w is currently developing a CQAF-based benchmarking tool for VET (BEQUAL).

p&w praxis und wissenschaft has coordinated several Leonardo da Vinci projects MAFF, Lingua-In-City, ICOVET and ICONET. Furthermore the organisation was / is partner in several Leonardo da Vinci network, research and pilot projects, like EVALII, Testscan, Observe, CERN, Action, TimeFuse, Quality.Net, BEQUAL and PwD Employ.

Glasgow University

We seek to improve the quality of adult education in Scotland, and the Glasgow area in particular, by undertaking leading-edge, internationally-competitive adult education research and development, while offering a challenging student-centred learning environment. As the adult education arm of a leading international university, we bring global knowledge and practice to local and national adult education, aiming also to sustain and add value to Scottish culture and society, to the natural environment and to the national economy. We are one of the world’s largest providers of university-level adult education, with an annual recruitment of 7000 students at all levels from pre-undergraduate to doctoral, and are engaged in constant curriculum development. We host a dedicated Centre for Research and Development in Adult and Lifelong Learning (CRADALL), and have been engaged in a number of projects related to curriculum and skills development of adults and their trainers internationally.

Schweizerischer Verband für Weiterbildung

SVEB is the Swiss national umbrella organisation for adult education and operates as a professional association and pressure group. We are represented through offices in all three language regions. In addition, we manage the Training for Trainers, eduQua and ModuQua offices, which are also represented in the different language regions. Our secretariats in Italian- and French-speaking Switzerland are actively supported by regional networks. For more than 60 years we have pioneered adult learning in Switzerland. We have campaigned for an effective and forward-looking adult education system and devoted ourselves to achieve a high level of quality in adult learning institutions / associations throughout Switzerland. We set high standards in the work we do, which includes developing innovative approaches to adult education. SVEB coordinates the Adult Learners' Week / Lernfestival since 1996 and has developed a unique platform of 24 hours for Lifelong Learning. An optimal network of diverse players is a key aim for us and forms the basis for our activities. The 650 SVEB members represent private and state institutions for adult education,associations, in-house training departments and individuals persons. In addition, SVEB is involved in national and international networks like IKW (Ministries of Adult Education on Cantonal level), EAEA (European Association for the Education of Adults and ICAE (International Council of Adult Education).

Association of German Learning Regions (LRD e.V.)

Learning regions in Germany through the past vast years have taken a leading role in establishing, planning, delivering and supporting lifelong learning, adult learning and education initiatives.  LERNENDE REGIONEN DEUTSCHLAND e.V. (LRD) is is a national association, which emerged from the German national programme "Learning regions". It is aiming at the mainstreaming the products and results aroused by 75 German Learning Regions to umbrella-organisations, ministries, city or regional councils in Germany and other European countries and thus helps to create pilot-regions for lifelong learning-initiatives. Furthermore the association is offering guidance and concrete educational programmes to cities and regions.

CITY Conversity AB

The Scandinavian model of the learning region particularly takes advantage of creativity and innovation development. Social platforms of innovation and organisations like CITY Conversity form the nucleus of LRs with the aim of creating interfaces for innovation policy and adult education. They  act as brokerage between academia, industry, public authorities and civic stakeholders. The company operates with an Enterprise 2.0 business model allowing people to learn, work and play in collaborative forms where participants are able to experiment with new ideas, products, services, institutions and new solutions to current problems.  The company offers their clients a virtual societal laboratory that can increase their foresight and innovation capacity. The company and its staff have a broad and deep experience of eLearning and modern pedagogies to take advantage of modern ICT for collaborative learning in the glocal context (thinking global – acting local).

Kaunas University of Technology

Kaunas University of Technology is the largest technical university in the Baltic States. The mission of KTU is to be an important part of the global university community and one of the most significant centres of the Lithuanian science, to be involved in the development of the information and knowledge society, and to aim for excellence through diversity. Research and research-based studies are the basis of the University’s activity. In the project, KTU is represented by the Institute of Educational Studies which is a department of the Faculty of Social Sciences, KTU, which will closely collaborate with the Municipality of Kaunas and its Department of Education.

Obervatory For Lifelong Learning Development Romania

The OBSERVATORY for LLL Development (ODIP) is a non-governmental and non-profit association that carries on research, evaluation, training, consultancy and expertise activities in the domain of promotion and development of permanent learning, at both a national and international level.

ODIP puts to good use the experience that its members have accumulated through various research and development, training and assessment projects with national and international organisations (European Training Foundation, UNICEF, European Council, European Economic and Social Committee).  The relevant expertise within current application of ODIP researchers, independent/free-lance experts and university professors is related to the activities focused on role of higher education institutions to regional development, innovative policies for learning cities and transnational assessment methodologies and tools in the area of quality assurance.

University of Pécs

The Faculty of Adult Education and HRD and its Regional Lifelong Learning Research Centre is an integral part of the University of Pécs (27.000 students; 3000 employees), second biggest university in Hungary. The university has 10 faculties and operates a Faculty of Adult Education and HRD that has a 30 years experience in researching the education and training of adults. It has participated various EU-funded projects in Erasmus (e.g. Socrates-Erasmus Intensive Program in Adult Education, Leonardo VELDE project, Socrates Grundtvig TEACH, Grundtvig DILLMULI, LILARA and PENR3L, OBSERVAL, ADD-LIFE, Equipe+) and is the member of key European adult education networks, like EUCEN and EAEA. The University is an official member of EUA, the Hungarian Universities’ Lifelong Learning Network (MELLearN) and its Regional Lifelong Learning Research Centre is developing the learning region initiative in the South-western region of Hungary.

Nexus Ireland

Nexus has been responsible for a range of projects connected with learning and education: planning, developing and evaluating learning-based projects with a range of socially and economically excluded groups in Ireland. Also  Nexus has participated in and led networks whose aim has been the encouragement of active participation in education. These have included a number of EU projects and programmes further afield (Nexus has worked in India and the Philippines, on UN-funded community-based projects where ICT has been used to maximise the potential of learning initiatives for disadvantaged communities). Nexus has also recognised expertise in the field of regional development. They were responsible, for example, for  evaluation of a range of EU- programmes that aimed to promote regional development of disadvantaged regions in Europe (Telematique, STAR). They have also been responsible for the development of area-based plans and strategies with a wide range of stakeholders across Ireland.
